1. What DiscountIQ does
DiscountIQ is a Shopify promotion and discount operations app. It brings scheduled sales, Shopify discounts, bulk selling-price updates, preflight safety checks, coupon analytics, issue monitoring, and change history into one merchant workspace.
| Area | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Home | A store snapshot: live and scheduled promotions, products on sale, issues, readiness, and recent activity. |
| Promotions | Create and monitor scheduled sales, discount codes, and automatic offers. |
| Bulk discount updates | Set selling prices from Compare-at prices across selected variants, with preview and preflight checks. |
| Performance | Measure coupon revenue, redemption rate, AOV, channel performance, weak codes, and suspicious patterns. |
| Issues | Review alerts, discount conflicts, margin protection, and unexpected managed price changes. |
| Activity | Search and inspect the audit trail for important changes. |
| Manage plan | Open Shopify's hosted subscription management page. |
2. Install and complete first-run setup
Install DiscountIQ from Shopify
After installation, Shopify may take you to its hosted plan-selection page. Select the plan shown in Shopify Admin and complete any subscription approval required for your store.
Open DiscountIQ
On first use, DiscountIQ opens the setup workspace before the main navigation becomes available.
Confirm your store currency
DiscountIQ attempts to read the store currency directly from Shopify. Confirm the detected currency. If Shopify provides the currency, DiscountIQ requires the same value so money is not mislabeled.
Complete setup
Click Complete setup. DiscountIQ starts catalog synchronization automatically and indexes the product data required by promotion workflows, including SKUs, selling prices, Compare-at prices, and product metadata.
3. Understand the Home dashboard
The Home page is the operational overview. Use it before launching or troubleshooting a promotion.
- Live now: how many managed promotions are currently active.
- Coming up: scheduled starts and endings.
- Needs attention: open issues and high-priority alerts.
- Quick actions: create a promotion, update bulk discounts, or resolve an issue.
- Recent activity: a readable summary of recent changes.
- Store readiness: catalog status, monitoring status, promotion health, and margin protection status.
4. Create a scheduled sale
Go to Promotions and choose Create promotion or Run a scheduled sale.
Enter sale details
- Give the sale a clear internal name.
- Choose a start date/time and an end date/time.
Set the discount
Enter the percentage off the Compare-at price. DiscountIQ adjusts the selling price to reach the requested percentage while leaving Compare-at prices unchanged.
Choose the product scope
- All eligible products: applies to eligible indexed variants.
- Collections: select one or more Shopify collections.
- Specific SKUs: paste SKUs (Shopify variant IDs are also accepted for advanced use).
Optionally coordinate Shopify discounts
You can link existing discount codes and/or automatic discounts so DiscountIQ can coordinate them with the scheduled sale. Shopify's own discount-combination rules still determine whether multiple discounts can stack at checkout.
Choose what happens when the sale ends
- Restore original discount levels — recommended for normal scheduled promotions.
- Keep the sale discount — leaves the managed sale pricing in place after the scheduled end.
Save the draft and run Check sale
Saving does not immediately launch the sale. Run Check sale before scheduling or starting it. The preflight evaluates catalog freshness, Compare-at price validity, margin safeguards, discount conflicts, and unexpected managed changes.
Schedule or start
When the preflight passes, schedule the sale for its configured start time or start it when the interface offers that action. Promotions that fail or partially execute appear under Needs attention and can be retried safely.
5. Create a discount code or automatic offer
From Promotions, choose Create a discount code or Create an automatic offer.
- Discount code: the shopper enters a code at checkout.
- Automatic offer: Shopify applies the discount automatically when its conditions match.
Depending on the discount type, the workspace can expose customer eligibility, product/collection targeting, minimum requirements, and Shopify combination settings.
For specific-customer targeting, DiscountIQ can resolve customers from merchant-entered email addresses or phone numbers.
6. Run bulk discount updates safely
Open Bulk discount updates from the navigation.
Select variants
Use the catalog filters/table to select the variants you want to change. You can also use the SKU import workflow.
Click Update discounts
A review panel opens for the selected variants.
Choose the discount percentage
Choose 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, or enter a custom percentage.
Review the preview
- Compare-at price
- Current selling price
- New selling price
- Per-variant change
- Counts for variants that will update, remain unchanged, or be skipped
- Total absolute selling-price movement
Run Promotion Preflight
The apply button remains gated by preflight. Resolve blocking issues if the check does not permit the update.
Apply the update
When preflight passes, apply the change to Shopify. Price Change History records managed batches for later review.
7. Review coupon performance
Open Performance to analyze coupon usage.
- Choose 7 days, 30 days, 60 days, or a custom date range.
- Switch the trend between daily and weekly grouping.
- Review Coupon revenue, Redemption rate, Coupon AOV, and Active codes.
- Inspect the best-performing coupon and active codes with no redemption in the selected range.
- Review revenue trends and channel distribution.
- Use the coupon table for code-level metrics.
- Review anti-abuse signals for repeat-customer concentration, redemption bursts, and elevated refund/cancellation rates.
8. Resolve issues and protect margins
Open Issues whenever Home shows something that needs attention.
- View all alerts and prioritize high/critical items.
- Open Discount combinations to review overlapping or non-combinable promotions.
- Open Margin protection to set or review minimum margin safeguards.
- Use Unexpected price changes to investigate selling prices changed outside the managed workflow.
- Follow the action link on an issue: DiscountIQ routes you to the relevant workspace.
9. Use Activity to trace changes
Activity is the change history for price updates, discounts, issues, and system events. It is useful for troubleshooting and for answering “what changed?” after an unexpected result.
- Filter by All, Price updates, Discounts, Issues, or System.
- Search by promotion, product, actor, or event.
- Events are grouped by day with newest changes first.
- Expand an event to inspect before-and-after field values when available.
- Use 25 or 50 rows per page for longer investigations.
10. Manage your subscription
Open Manage plan from the app navigation. DiscountIQ shows a stable page with a Manage plan in Shopify action. Click it to open Shopify's hosted plan-management experience.
11. Troubleshooting and support
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| Money shows the wrong currency | Confirm the Shopify store currency. DiscountIQ uses the store currency and does not convert values. |
| A variant is skipped | Confirm the variant is eligible and has a valid Compare-at price for the requested discount. |
| Preflight blocks a change | Open the blocking result and resolve catalog freshness, margin, conflict, or unexpected-change issues. |
| Coupon analytics are incomplete | Confirm the app has the required order permission and use a smaller date range when investigating very large order volumes. |
| A promotion is Failed or Partial | Open it from Promotions > Needs attention and use the safe retry action when available. |
| Manage plan does not open | Use the explicit Manage plan in Shopify action; ensure browser/admin navigation is not being blocked. |
